The Gunslinger and The Spellblade (Dungeon World Playbooks)

Two playbooks for Adam Koebel and Sage LaTorra's game, Dungeon World. Designed by me (Ben Rosenbloom) and Trevor Murray for our collection, Incomplete Adventurer.

This version of the Gunslinger doesn't totally eschew the power fantasy of holding a gun and shooting it at bad guys, but one of the goals of this playbook is to insert at least a few questions along the way. The Gunslinger has some degree of fiat over who else in the story wields a gun - but as their story goes on and they are drawn into and become a part of the world's problems, they might find themselves hurtling towards a showdown at sundown.

The Spellblade is a powerful combatant who can exert narrative control over battles through their potent combination of swordplay and spellcasting. Perfect for players who are already great at sharing the spotlight or have trouble giving it up - the Spellblade plays with notions of classical heroism, the true nature of power, and who gets to be a/the protagonist.
